Natalie Portman, the star of the blockbuster Black Swan, makes her first film appearance in the film Your Highness. Portman is also currently trying to produce her own flick called Best Buds, a comedy about friendship, weed and a road trip. This project is under her own production company Handsomecharlie Films, and she quips that she would have liked to have done those things that they portrayed in Best Buds, except that she has overgrown her weed-laden college days and is now too old for anything of that sort. At thirty years of age, Portman is already asleep by 10 PM and already feels like an old hag. Maybe her pregnancy made her brain go haywire, because she doesn't look like a hag at all. And she is still cool, despite what she says to the contrary.
Portman got interested in the film Your Highness because David Gordon Green, who directed it, offered her a unique character, one that she hasn't done onscreen yet. Her role is that of a warrior with a bow and arrow who helps two brothers on a quest for a kidnapped damsel in distress. Portman's role is supposedly funny, and the character is three dimensional, with her own hidden agendas and possibly involved in a unique twist in the plot.
Going back to her previous blockbuster Black Swan, celebrity gossip has set even more fuel to the already blazing fire, and Portman muffled that blaze somewhat. The issue concerns ballerina Sarah Lane, who claimed in the previous month that she did ninety five percent of the dance scenes that Portman was credited with. This is hazardous territory because it was exactly this performance of Portman that is slating her for Best Actress in the upcoming Oscar awards.
Supporters of Portman were quick to step in her defense, including her co-star Mila Kunis and Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. Portman herself, however, has been quiet about the whole thing. With this particular celebrity gossip, she has mysteriously stayed neutral. It is quite telling, however, that she did not refute the accusations made by the ballerina, nor any other related issues about this particular celebrity gossip. These issues include the allegations that Lane was told to keep her peace at the upcoming Oscar season, and that the face-replacement effects of Black Swan were not included in its promotional reel.
Regarding other film projects, Portman has recently turned down the starring role in Adaline, a film about a woman who suddenly stopped aging after being involved in a freak accident.
